BRIEF DESCRIPTION A small, straggly shrub 2-3 m or a small erect tree reaching 3-9 m in height. USES The wood can be used as fuel, small posts, and ornamental items. The tree can be used for amenity plantings. An infusion of the leaves and bark are used against sore throat and colds and the fleshy fruit is edible. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Wild pear, Tarpoon, Nanchee, Booral. FURTHER INF Wild pear occurs in northern Australia within the latitudinal range 11-25°S at elevations between sea level and 900 m. |
