BRIEF DESCRIPTION A medium sized to tall deciduous tree up to 30 m in height, while the trunk may reach a diameter of 100 cm. The tree has a straight trunk 1/2 to 2/3 of the tree height. Heartwood yellowish or orange and soft. USES The wood is easily carved but not durable when exposed to the weather. It is used for framing and internal flooring. GROWING PERIOD Perennial deciduous tree. COMMON NAMES Cheesewood, Leichhardt pine, Yellow cheesewood. FURTHER INF Cheesewood can be found at elevations between sea level and 500 m. Its latitudinal range in Australia is 12-24°S. The tree thrives in watercourses and in swamps where it has access to water even during dry periods.
