BRIEF DESCRIPTION A densely tufted grass with culms 20-90 cm tall, simple, lowest leaf-sheaths densely hairy at the base. Leaf blades usually 15-40 cm long, Panicle about 40 cm long. USES Used for pasture. GROWING PERIOD Perennial grass. COMMON NAMES Common russet grass, Besem grass. FURTHER INF In Tanzania, common russet grass can be found at elevations from 300 to 2750. It is common on open grassland and in poorly drained, or seasonally flooded high-rainfall sandy soils, but does not extend into the woodlands. Annual burning maintain the best production. It is of relatively low grazing value.
