BRIEF DESCRIPTION A reedlike grass, with solid stems growing up to 3-5 m tall. It forms a dense pure stand with a leafy table at 1.2-2 m. USES It is a good fodder and pasture when young, and it is also grown for hay. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. Growing in the summer. COMMON NAMES Antelope grass, Pasto limpapo. FURTHER INF Antelope grass can be found at elevations between sea level and 300-1500 m. The grass is usually burned at the end of the dry season and the fresh growth grazed. It is common on seasonally flooded grassland and lake shores, and floating meadows. May yield up to about 25 t/ha of green matter per cutting. | Sources |
