Notes
Habitat:
It is a shade-loving species of non-flooded forests in the
lowland humid tropical zone. Where there is a well-marked
season, it is found only in gallery forest and on swampy
ground.
Environment
Latitude:
Altitude: It can be found at elevations up to 1000 m.
Temperature: It has a wide temperature range.
Reported temperature range for growth is 14-35°C with the
optimum between 18-28°C.
Water: It has a wide rainfall range but is not
drought resistant. Reported annual rainfall range for
growth is 1000-5000 mm with the optimum between 1200-3000
mm.
Radiation
Range & intensity: Seedlings thrive in shade, mature
trees in partly shade to full sunlight.
Photoperiodism: It adapts well to differences in day
length.
Soil:
Physical: Grows in a wide range of soils and can
grow on leached, infertile ferrallitic soils.
Chemical: Estimated soil pH range for growth is 4-8
with the optimum between 5-6.5.
