BRIEF DESCRIPTION A tall symmetrical tree reaching 35 m in height, while the trunk may reach 125 cm in diameter. The trunk is usually cylindrical and often buttressed at the base. Sapwood pale, heartwood pinkish-brown and grain somewhat interlocked. USES The wood is easy to work, has a distinctive odour and is used for forniture, plywood and joinery. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Rose maple, Pigeonberry ash, Rose walnut, Southern maple. FURTHER INF In Australia, the latitudinal range of the tree is 28-32°S and it occur at elevations between 100-700 m. The tree is usually found on the side of mountains or at plateaux.
