BRIEF DESCRIPTION A herbaceous legume reaching a height of up to 2 m. USES Used for erosion control and green manure. Leaves yield a strong, durable fiber. Plants are also grown as ornamentals. GROWING PERIOD Annual. Spring sown in Brazil it provides groundcover in 70-85 days, flowers after 70-85 days, and mature in 90-130 days. COMMON NAMES Showy crotalaria. FURTHER INF Scientific synonyms: C. cuneifolia, C. leschenaultii, C. macrophylla, C. retzii, C. sericea. Showy crotalaria is probably native of tropical Asia. It can be found from sea level to 1500 m in elevation. Annual green amterial production may be about 50 t/ha. The pant is toxic to livestock and can become a weed of cultivated ground.
