GROWING PERIOD
Perennial deciduous tree. Usually worked under the simple coppice system, with a rotation period of 30-40 years. In India new flowers appear in March-April, leaves appear in May, and fruits ripen from May to August. The tree is usually leafless from February.

East Indian satinwood is a small or medium sized tree. In India, it is adapted to a relative humidity in January from 40-80% and in July from 60-90%. It can be found at elevations from sea level to 240 m, occasionally seen up to 450 m. It is easily damaged by fire.
