BRIEF DESCRIPTION A tufted grass, without rhizomes, reaching a height of 70-100 cm. USES Used fro pasture, hay or silage. GROWING PERIOD Perennial grass growing from spring to summer. COMMON NAMES Birdwood grass, Mada dhamnan grass, Black kolukatti grass, Anjan grass, Haniteeb, Yaraab, Yarrah, Yerrah, Yerro, Heskaneit, Garbi. FURTHER INF Scientific synonym: C ciliaris var. setigerus, C. setiger. Birdwood grass is native of East Africa, Western Asia and India. The latitudinal range of the grass is between 30°N and S. It can be found at elevations between 500 and 800 m and is common in open dry bush and grassland, usually on alkine soils. Dry matter yields are usually between 0.4-2.1 t/ha.
