BRIEF DESCRIPTION A handsome deciduous tree up to 12-30 m in height and 30-130 cm in diameter. The bole is often more than half the tree height, the main branches are spreading to erect and the crown has an open appearance. Sapwood pale, heartwood dark, strong, hard, fissile and very dense. USES The wood can be sliced for veneer, used for fancy turnery and small cabinet work and is also a good fuel. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Forest sheoak, Rose sheoak. FURTHER INF Scientific synonyms: C. tenuissima, Allocasuarina torulosa. Forest sheoak is native of the coastal ranges of eastern Australia within the latitudinal range 15-37°S. It can be found at elevations between sea level and 1100 m. The tree grows on poor soils, but not as poor as those where C. littoralis can be found. (pH estimated by the compiler).
