BRIEF DESCRIPTION In favorable areas, an erect, somewhat pyramidal tree with a straight bole two-thirds of the tree height and an open crown, reaching a height of 14-15 m. On poor sites, a tall shrub 2-5 m high. Sapwood pale, heartwood dark red. USES The wood is used for turnery and was formerly used for roof shingles, barrel staves and fuel. GROWING PERIOD Perennial tree. COMMON NAMES Western Australian she-oak, She-oak, Fraser's sheoak. FURTHER INF Scientific synonym: Allocasuarina fraseriana. The latitudinal range of Western Australian she-oak is 31-35°S. It is usually found in the coastal lowlands at altitudes between sea level and 300 m. |
