DESCRIPTION: It is an evergreen vine which is just as happy spreading horizontally or hanging downwards as it is climbing upwards, it makes itself at home in almost any tropical or sub-tropical situation. Stem are produced up to about 7 m length. USE: Widely grown as an ornamental. It can be grown as a hedge, groomed as a ground cover, pruned as an espalier, trained as a tree or contained in a pot in a variety of shapes. Its trunk tends to be gnarled. Alos ideal for bonsai. GROWING PERIOD: Perennial. COMMON NAMES: Bougainville, Paper flower, Flor de papel. FURTHER INF: It is native of tropical forests and scrublands of Brazil. Being a warm weather plant, is must be provided winter protection. It can usually tolerate die back from a freeze, but will withhold blooms for awhile. It requires full expose to sun. Plants need to remain moist while in growth, if allowed to dry out too much during this period, leaf drop may occur. Become more drought resistant when established. Grown indoors temperature should be between 10-25°C and humidity levels at medium.
