Mediterranean sal is native of the Mediterranean region. A very hardy species, but not very palatable. It can be grown on slopes. The water-table should be less than 3-10 m below the surface. Photosynthesis pathway C4. A 3-5 years old stand can produce 1-4 t/ha of dry matter with 150-170 mm of annual rainfall.
