BRIEF DESCRIPTION
A monoecious, evergreen, large and lofty tree up to 50-60 m tall, with a branchsless bole up to 20-35 m long and 80-150 or even 185 cm in diameter.

GROWING PERIOD
Perennial. Can be grown with a rotation of 60-80 years.

Rasamala, Mala, Tulasan, Mandung, Nantayok, Sop, Hom, Satu.

Scientific synonym: Liquidambar altingiana. Rasamala can be found from Assam over Myanmar, Malayan peninsula, Sumatra to west Java at elevations between 550-1700 m. It occurs in humid mixed hill and montane forests. The average annual production of timber in plantations is 9-13 m3/ha. On sites of reasonable quality, a pure stand of 60 years old trees may have a timber volume of 450 m3/ha. Natural stands may yield 100-150 m3/ha. (pH estimated by the compiler).
