BRIEF DESCRIPTION A small to medium sized deciduous tree reaching 9-12 m in height. The trunk is commonly spectacularly large, barrel- to bottle-shaped and up to nearly 16 m in circumference. Wood soft and porous, spongy, somewhat fibrous. USES The wood can reputedly be eaten by stock. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Bottle tree, Baobab, Dead rat tree, Gadawon. FURTHER INF Bottle tree can in Australia be found within the latitudinal range of 14-18°S, often close to the sea at elevations from sea level to 400 m.
