BRIEF DESCRIPTION A small to medium sized deciduous tree reaching 9-12 m in height. The trunk is commonly spectacularly large, barrel- to bottle-shaped and up to nearly 16 m in circumference. Wood soft and porous, spongy, somewhat fibrous. USES The wood can reputedly be eaten by stock. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Bottle tree, Baobab, Dead rat tree, Gadawon.
