BRIEF DESCRIPTION A grass up to 1.4 m high, turning a distinctive orange-red colour as the seed-heads mature. USES It is not grazed very much. Burning encourages germination. GROWING PERIOD Summer annual grass. COMMON NAMES Habana oat grass, Grader grass. FURTHER INF Habana oat grass is widespread in tropical India to 28°N and introduced to Australia between 17-27°S. It has become an agressive weed in sugar-cane fields in northern Queensland.
